What Fawz Will Is — and Isn't

Mission

Every adult Muslim is encouraged in the Sunnah to have a will — yet most do not, because the available options are expensive, jurisdiction-limited, or fail to correctly apply Islamic inheritance rules (faraid). Fawz Will exists to remove every barrier: cost, complexity, language, and privacy.

Writing a will is a duty encouraged in the Sunnah, so the Islamic will itself is free for everyone — no account, no email. Premium features fund continued development of the platform and formal scholarly and legal review.

The obligatory Islamic will is free and complete. Premium is an optional paid upgrade for the wider estate plan.

Privacy model: your data stays on your device

Your name, your beneficiaries, your asset values, and the contents of your will never leave your device. Inheritance shares are computed by our server from de-identified inputs only — the relationships, counts, and school involved, never names or amounts. In your browser's Network tab you can verify the requests: the application download, a de-identified share calculation, — optionally — a single SHA-256 hash sent to the OpenTimestamps Bitcoin calendar when you anchor a document, and — during the review beta — anonymous, aggregate usage metrics that count only milestones reached (never names, values, or identities; we respect your browser's Do Not Track setting). This is strong privacy, but not zero-knowledge: we can see the shape of a family, never who they are.

• Drafts encrypted client-side with AES-256-GCM (passphrase-derived)
• Runs in your browser; an internet connection is used only to compute shares from de-identified inputs

OpenTimestamps disclosure: when you opt in to blockchain anchoring, only the hash of your PDF is transmitted. The hash mathematically reveals nothing about the contents.

Faraid engine methodology

The inheritance calculator implements the rules of all four Sunni schools (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) and the Ja'fari (Twelver Shia) school. It uses exact rational arithmetic (no floating-point error) and explicitly handles every divergence point between schools: 'awl, radd, mushtarakah (al-Himariyyah), grandfather/sibling muqasamah, dhawu al-arham (distant kindred), and the killer rule (al-qatil).

Verification. The engine is covered by an extensive automated test suite, including randomized property invariants and a cross-validated fixture set. Every share returned by the engine cites the Quranic verse, hadith, or fiqh principle that justifies it.

Where we cite our sources. The engine is grounded in the classical works of Islamic inheritance law and verified against the positions of the madhahib, alongside the major hadith collections. Source citations are inline in the engine and visible on the inheritance review screen.

Review status — full transparency

Scholarly review: in progress. Scholars who wish to review the fiqh rule set are welcome to contact us. Until formal review is complete, treat the output as a strong first draft to discuss with a qualified scholar.

Legal review: pending per jurisdiction. The execution requirements (witnesses, notarization, signing) reflect each jurisdiction's general statutes but should not substitute for advice from a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction — especially for estates with significant assets, blended families, business interests, or cross-border concerns.

Jurisdictions supported

84 total: all 50 US states + DC, all 13 Canadian provinces and territories, and 20 international jurisdictions including the UK, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.

For each jurisdiction the platform applies the correct witness count, notarization rules, and signing procedure. Spousal-rights notices specific to each jurisdiction (e.g., Ontario's Family Law Act election, BC's WESA variation, Quebec's family patrimony) are included where applicable.

• Storage: IndexedDB via Dexie (encrypted) + idb-keyval (preferences)
• Blockchain proof: OpenTimestamps via Bitcoin calendar servers
• Hosting: static frontend + serverless edge functions (the de-identified share calculation); no personal-data database
